SABC was founded in 1936 regulated by a government act, replacing the already existing African Broadcasting Corporation that was founded in 1927. The name stands for South African Broadcasting Corporation. It started the first television service, TV1, on 6 January 1976, after 8 months of experimental broadcasts. From the beginning, the channel had nationwide coverage and broadcasted in color. The company is founded by an yearly licence fee. SABC launched the second channel in 1982 which broadcasting in the African languages while TV1 covered both English and African languages. The third channel,known as TSS or Topsport Surplus, was released later, dedicated entirely to sport events and related programs.
