NRK1 started its live test broadcast on 12 January 1954. IT is the oldest TV channel in Norway and started broadcasting regularly on 13 April 1958. It is owned and operated by Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, a state owned media group. Due to the large demand and the high market share of 40%, NRK1 launched its HD version in 2010 although the first HD broadcast was on 7 February 2010.
