RTI1 was launched live on 7 August 1963. The TV channel is owned and operated by Radiodiffusion Télévision Ivoirienne, the national broadcaster of the Ivory Coast. The initial broadcast was black and white. RTI1 switched to color transmission on 7 August 1973.
