Sat1 live broadcast started in 1984 as PKS and was the first private channel in the country. It was renamed into Sat1 on 1 January 1985. Sat1 is the short name for SatellitenFernsehen. Sat1 is owned and operated bei ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG. The channel is available via sattelite signal, on cable, IPTV and DVB-T. It is also available in hidh definition since 31 january 2010.
