Das Erste was the first public channel in Germany, launched on 1 November 1954 as Das Erstes Deutsches Fernsehen (First German TV). It is widely officially known by its short name Das Erste (The First) since 1966. It is owned and operated by the German public broadcaster ARD. The schedule programs are mostly produces by vareious regional channel in Germany such as WDR, SWR, NDR, BR and MDR. Das Erste is widely available digital terrestrial in Germany but also in Switzerland, Italy, Austria and Danmark. You can also watch it on most cable networks and via satellite dish. The channel also features a HD version since 12 February 2010.
