Television in Denmark was introduced in 1950. The first TV channel started to broadcast live programming in 1951. At the begging it aired one hour a day, three days a week and there were only few hundred homes with TV sets. Since 1954, the station began to broadcast programming all day long. In 1965 the first news programme was launched, TV Avisen. Two years later, in 1967, color television was introduced. The first regional TV station was established in 1983 and it was known as TV Syd. In 1988 a new national television channel was launched, TV2. This was the end of the monopoly on national television. By the same year, eight regional TV stations were established. The first private channel was established in 1987, TV3. Digital terrestrial television was introduced in 2006.
