Sportsnet was launched live on 9 October 1998. The TV channel was originally knwn as CTV Sportsnet. The major owner was CTV with 40% along with Fox, Molson and Rogers, each holding 20% of the shares. Later, in 2001, Rogers Communications Inc acquired CTVs shares through its subsidiary Rogers Media Inc and renamed it as Rogers Sportsnet. Until the whole the process was finished, the channel was known as Sportsnet for a short period of time. The TV channel is actually a network of regional channels under the Sportsnet umbrella. It features regional channels like Sportsnet East, Sportsnet Ontario, Sportsnet West and sportsnet Pacific. Rogers also owns other sports speciality channels like Sportsnet World, Sports One and The Score. Due to the high success of its TV channels, the company also opened the Sportsnet Radio station in January 2011 and started the Sportsnet Magazine at the end of September 2011.
