APTN live broadcast started on 21 January 1992 although the idea of its creation dated since 1980. The name stands for Aboriginal Peoples Television. It was initially named Television Northern Canada (TVNC) until 1 September 1999, when it was renamed into APTN. The channel is available terrestrial free to air in the Northern parts of Canada and on cable and sattelite in the rest of the country. APTN schedules and produces programs about aboriginal people.
