Band News TV started its live transmission on 19 March 2001. The channel is owned and operated by Grupo Bandeirantes de Comunicação from Sao Paulo, which also ownes Rede 21, Rede Bandereirantes and a few Brazilian radio channels like Band FM and Nativa FM. It offers newscasts every 30 minutes but also talk shows, business news and documentaries. Band News was the second news channel in the country to be available on cable and satellite and also the most watched.
